Local breeders draw the crowds and sell to 5,500gns

A crowded ringside of breeders and enthusiasts gathered for the Dundrod and Welton Belgian Blue herd sale along with a guest consignment from the the Beattie herd on Friday at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

Leading the sale at 5,500gns was a cow and calf outfit consigned from the Welton herd of JJ Henderson & Son based at Dalston. Woodview Shannon, a second calved daughter to Seduisant de Fooz along with her heifer calf Welton Anita sold to RA & NJ Wheelwright of Crow Hill Farm, Cragg Vale, Halifax.

Fabriole - 4,200gns

The next top price came from the Dundrod herd of S Hamilton, Lockerbie. At 4,200gns the imported five year old cow Fabriole attracted much interest. She is mother of the renowned show heifer Boomer Witney who has achieved numerous championship award during the 2005 show season. Fabriole sold in calf to Osborne Van Terbeck and was knocked down to IGC Morris of the Bramley herd, near Kidderminister.

Also from the Dundrod herd, an incalf heifer sold for 3,800gns. Dundrod Vicky a February 2003 born daughter of Ministre du Bouchelet and out of an Alambic bred mother, she was sold to G & R Bellis for their Betws herd based near Ceredigion.

Leading the bull entries was Dundrod Viscount from S Hamilton. This mobile blue bull, an October 2003 son of Sceptre de Bomal was knocked down to J McGarva of Nether Abington, Biggar.

A much admired black bull from the Welton herd sold next at 3,100gns. Herts Trip, an April 2001 bull sired by Battlesden Leo, was purchased by RA & NJ Wheelwright of Halifax.

A guest consignment from the Beattie herd of JA Beattie & Sons saw a top price of 2,800gns for a recipient with her bull calf at foot. Bridgemuir Awesam, a January 2005 born embryo calf sired by Visconti and bred from the noted Astbury Nina cow, sold to Messrs Wheelwright of Halifax.

Welton herd
5 cows served and/or suckling £3,066.00, 6 served heifers £1,960.00, 1 maiden heifer £1,890.00, 1 bull £3,255.00.

Beattie herd
1 cow and calf £2,310.00, 4 recipients with calves £2,100.00
