‘Edenvalley Vixen’ Tops 3800gns at Borderway Premier Blue Female Sale

There was feverish bidding, for a small entry of quality females at Borderway Mart, on Wednesday 3rd November, for the Premier Belgian Blue Female Show and Sale, held in conjunction with the Border Belgian Blue Club.

Springfield Unella ET - 3,600 gns

Judge, Richard Bartle, from Shifnal, Shropshire, put up as his Supreme Champion and winner of the “Norbreck Havana Perpetual Trophy,” “Beckfarm Vicky,” a ‘Seduisant De Fooz’ daughter, out of ‘Beckfarm Rose’. She was exhibited by R F & A Tyson, Millom, Cumbria. “Beckfarm Vicky” was passed out of the ring, unsold, at 4,200 gns. The Reserve Supreme Champion rosette and class winner was awarded to a stylish heifer “Springfield Unella ET” presented by Anita Padfield, by ‘Visconti De St Fontaine’, out of ‘Springfield Pepsi ET’. This went on to be knocked down to R Barker, Bewcastle, Carlisle for 3,600 gns.

In the Intermediate Heifer class, Messrs. Ridley’s “Wood Hall Vicky ET” claimed the red rosette, sired by ‘Gib Van Het Negenbond’ and out of ‘Histoire D’Au Chene’. She was knocked down to Nether Hall Farms Ltd, Carnforth at 2,800 gns. From the same stable “Wood Hall Viola” was sold for 3,200 gns to Gavin Boocock, Driffield, Yorkshire. Junior Heifer “Annanwater Verona ET” claimed first in her class, making 2,900 gns to new breeder, R J Mowbray, Newtonstewart, Northern Ireland. Glen Forsyth’s “Tamhorn Tess ET”, taking first prize in the Senior Cow class.

Fenton & Christine Brass, Maulds Meaburn, Penrith, topped the sale with “Edenvalley Vixen ET” being purchased by Mrs J Pollard, Colne, Lancashire for 3,800 gns., Vixen was sired by the renowned Tamhorn Sumo, out of Ridge Dean Nelly 2 ET. She was also credited with an above average Beef Value of 26. Another success for the Brass family came with “Edenvalley Vesta” finding a new home with G J Hogg, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, at 2,200 gns.

Auctioneer, David Dickinson, commented, “There was a very keen demand for quality animals, with a number of potential purchasers going home empty handed.” “ There were a number of good quality animals, which made a good trade on the day. It was nice to see females showing scale and growth with good mobility” said judge, Richard Bartle.

The British Belgian Blue Cattle Society and the Border Belgian Blue Club, are greatly indebted to the main sponsor of the prize-money - Express Tyre Service, Lockerbie. Grateful thanks are also extended to the other sponsors, McMin (Sirling) Ltd and T W Relph & Sons, Penrith.

Thanks are also expressed to ‘Insem A I Services’, of Penrith for the “Insem Perpetual Trophy” for the highest priced female, which was awarded to Fenton & Christine Brass.
