Beef Shorthorn Sale of Bulls and Females

SUPREME CHAMPION HEIFER TOPS SALE AT 3,800gns

Local breeders Nord Vue Farms Ltd from Armathwaite, Carlisle secured the Championship Award and leading price of 3,800gns for their maiden heifer entry Lowther Lilac 1st at Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society official show and sale held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Friday.

This much admired heifer, a June 2003 born daughter of Tugby Lucky George and out of a Chapelton Eclipse bred daughter, led a class of 12 entries to win the Supreme Champion ticket. She was sold to J Stewart & Ptrs of Upper Kidston, Peebles.

Another heifer lifted the next leading price tag of 3,100gns. Fingask Rosette Wallflower consigned by W McGowan of Cupar, Fife, was another animal which caused much interest. Wallflower, a slightly younger heifer born October 2003, is sired by Uppermill Lifton and out of Fingask Rosette. She was successfully purchased by KG Trading of Glassary, Argyll.

Lowther Holly 2nd , another maiden heifer entry from Nord View Farms, sold for 2,800gns. Also by Tugby Lucky George and out of Killochries Holly 3rd a Craigowmill Nutmeg bred mother, Holly 2nd was knocked down to Dumfriesshire breeder, Mr BK Ryder of Newton Farm, Moffat.

A cow and calf outfit from Derek Steen of the Ballylinney herd based at Corrie, Lockerbie sold for 2,400gns. Loch Awe Irene 4th a second calved cow and her heifer calf, Ballylinney Irene were purchased by EJ White of Stadhampton, Oxford.

Also selling for over the 2,000gn mark was one of younger animal in the sale, a March 2004 heifer from HMP Wymott based at Preston. Colonywymott Mandy Broadhooks, sired by Chapelton Provost and bred out of Glenisla mother, she sold to J Stewart & Ptrs of Peebles.

In the bull classes, an October 2003 born entry from MD McMillan of Upper Coln Farm, Fossebridge sold for the leading price of 1,600gns. Colnvalley Weatherman, a roan coloured bull by Uppermill Ling was knocked down to GT Anderson of Fairnley, Morpeth.

Averages – 7 bulls £1,207.00, 40 served and maiden heifers £1,267.00, 17 cows in calf or with calf at foot £1,073.00.
