Aberdeen Angus Black Bonanza Sale of Bulls and Females

Saturday 25th September 2004

An extremely large entry of 124 pedigree Aberdeen Angus were on offer at the Bristol Sales Centre which included draft sales from the Buttermore herd, Whitehall herd and Moonlight herd.

Leading the sale at 1,400gns was the first female entry into the ring from EA & MC Jones of the Rull herd. Pamela 4th of Lanson, a Carlhurlie Ebullient daughter, sold with her unregistered February born bull calf at foot to TA Foster of Stevens Farm, Hants.

AA Female Champion
Female Champion

Following at 1,200gns was the female champion, an incalf heifer from Lynher Valley Aberdeen Angus based at Cornwall. Lynher Valley Eljubilee, a Black Banner daughter, was sold in calf to Lord Harry of Blelack and was successfully sold to RA Quantrill of High Meadow, Somerset.

A maiden heifer from the Oakchurch herd of J & A Price based at Hereford sold for 1,100gns. Oakchurch Edia, a January 2003 heifer of Skaill Dividend and out of a Broomhill Enchanter bred daughter, sold with an EBV of AA+24. She was secured by LM White of Sweeton Farm, Newton Abbot, Devon.

Mr White also purchased at 1,000gns Cambria Practicale with her heifer calf at foot from EA & MC Jones of Paulsland House, Collumpton, Devon.

AA Bull
Champion Bull

The reserve female champion of the show and sale also sold for 1,000gns, and came from the Kingwood herd of Mr & Mrs MC Spooner of Henley, Oxon. Kingwood Eppie, a February 2003 daughter of Lochdu Elfking was bid up by RJ Jenkins of Talyfan Farm, Vale of Glamorgan.

A bull from Mrs Truedy Baker of the Lesant herd sold at 1,000gns. Lesant Ernie, a February 2003 son of the homebred bull Lesant Elite, and out of a Ty-Isha bred cow, was knocked down to TR & EWJ Wolfe of Brookfield Farm, Herts.

Leading the draft sales on offer this day was a cow and calf outfit from the Buttermore herd of Mrs J Kirby. Glympton Jane Erica and her heifer calf Buttermore Jane Erica was bought by RA Quantrill of Somerset.

14 cows served and/or suckling £891.00; 7 served heifers £780.00; 14 maiden heifers £584.25;
1 bull £1,050.00.
Buttermore Herd – 12 cows and heifers served and/or suckling £770.00
Whitehall Herd – 7 cows served and/or suckling £691.50, 4 served heifers £538.12
Moonlight Herd – 1cow served and /or suckling £514.50, 10 maiden heifers £476.70
