QUALITY ANGUS BULLS IN DEMAND

Top call of the spring show and sale at Carlisle was 5,000gns for Ballavitchel Rob Roy (lot 41) from Messrs RH & L Quayle of Isle of Man. Rob Roy, a July 2002 born son of Coldstream Dominator, was sold to Mr JD Walker of Galcantray Farm, Nairn.

Close behind at 4,700gns was a May 2002 born bull from Messrs J & K Hayward of Pittentian Farm, Crieff. Lady Croft Bold Lad (lot 28), a son of The Moss Fenton and out of a home bred cow Beauty Lass, was knockded down to Messrs J Melville & Sons of Ardwell Farm, Girvan.

The second entry from Messrs Hayward, Lady Croft Perseverance (lot 29), sold for 4,500gns. Also a son of The Moss Fenton and bred out of Perryville Roscoe daughter, Perseverance sold to Messrs JG Runciman & Co of Upper Blainslie, Galashiels.

Heading the female trade at 2,000gns were two entries from Mrs PA Holliday of the Dacre herd based at Harrogate. The first price went to a cow and calf outfit, Polyanna of the Moss (lot 93) selling to the Firm of G Gray at Sunnycroft, Selkirk. The second 2,000gn bid was for Dacre Elluma CE X49 and her bull calf (lot 99) and sold to Mr J Scott of Upper Ardmannoch, Castle Douglas.

Averages - 34 bulls £2,479.85, 19 females £970.42, Tegsnose herd (11 head) £798.95, Dacre herd (11 head) £1,591.22, Ecclesbourne herd 12 cows and heifers served and/or suckling £908.25, 4 maiden heifers £1,286.25, 1 stock bull £1,890.00.
