ABERDEEN ANGUS BULL SETS NEW CENTRE RECORD
Angus bulls sold to a new centre record of 6,500gns Friday 23rd May 2003 at Carlisle. Mosston Muir Ebenezer A024 a September 2001 son of Mosston Muir Buzz Mark from Tom Rennie of Mosston Muir, Guthrie, Forfar, set the new record. He was 1st in class and also won male and supreme champion. Signing the cheque to secure him was Broadfield Farms of Lower End Farm, Northleach, Cheltenham. In the bull section the next leading price tag was 3,000gns three times over. The first came from R Rutherford & Sons of Old Town, Hexham for Whitfield George A329, a May 2001 sired bull of Nightingale Troy. Out of a home bred cow and carrying a beef value of AA32, George sold to JI Rogerson of Overgrass, Morpeth.
Next in line at 3,000gns was Haymount Wavavono A116 from J & W Arnott of Haymount, Kelso. Sired by Wavono of Haymount and going back to TLA Northern Samurai on his dams pedigree, he was knocked down to PM Shirley-Beava of Gatehousecote, Bonchester Bridge. A couple of lots later and selling for 3,000gns was Glenmoy James Eric A093 from NA & SJ Brown of Hackleton Farms Ltd, Northants. Bred from the Chines family, he was secured by M & S Wilson & Son of New Bank, Beattock, Moffat. In the collective section for females, the top price was Haymount Gelushana from J & W Arnott. Sired by Cardonna Eagle, she changed hands at 3,000gns to DA Roberts of The Knowe Farm, Sanquhar.
The sale also included the dispersal sale of the Coal Yeat herd for John Sutcliffe of Bridgefield Farm, Lowick, Ulverston. Leading the sale at 3,700gns was Dunlouise Eva a 1998 born cow by Carlhurlie Dynamic and selling with her heifer calf at foot by William of Yeat. Eva was bred by Messrs Soutar of Forfar who in turn purchased her back into their herd. Another Dunlouise bred cow took the next top price at 3,500gns. Dunlouise Ethel a 1999 born daughter of Galcantray Preditor sold with her bull calf at foot to Miss Judith Brearly of Highcliffe Farm, Guisborough, Cleveland. Also included was an annual draft sale from Mrs Holliday of the Dacre herd from Harrogate. The top price came for a cow and calf unit at 1,450gns selling to JD McIrvine of Huntly, Aberdeenshire. This was followed by a dispersal sale of the Mulgrove herd from RR Radburn of Hambrook, Bristol. The herd sold to a top of 1,500gns for the stock bull, Castle of Mey Powerful Z003, going to G & J Matthews of Castlehill, Carluke. Averages - Dacre herd - 8 cows served and/or suckling £1,082.82 Mulgrove herd - 10 cows and heifers served and/or suckling £766.50, 1 stock bull £1,575.00 Coalyett herd - 15 served and maiden heifers £1,043.00, 21 cows served and/or suckling £1,455.00, 5 cows with ET calves £1,659.00, 3 young bulls £822.50, 1 junior stock bull £1,155.00, 1 senior stock bull £2,100.00. |
