Annual Sale of Swaledale, Bluefaced Leicester and Other Crossing Rams

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual sale of Swaledale, Bluefaced Leicester and other crossing rams at Lazonby mart on Saturday 8th October 2005 where there was an entry of 253 head.

A show was held for Swaledale and Bluefaced Leicester sheep, which was kindly judged by Mr G Carrick, Garrigill, and sponsored by Varley’s Tup Mixtures local agent Ken Newton and also Messrs McNally.

The following results were awarded:

Aged Swaledale Ram:

1st – Forest Hall Farms, Selside

2nd – P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall.

2 Shear Swaledale Ram:

1st – P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall

Shearling Swaledale Ram:

1st – S M Rigg, Spanham

2nd – J F Wilkin, The Slack

Bluefaced Leicester Ram Lamb:

1st – F & M Moore, High Side

2nd – C & N McNally, Anns Hill

3rd – C & N McNally, Anns Hill

Bluefaced Leicester Shearling ram or over:

1st – L Smith & Co, Roachburn

2nd – P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall

3rd – W Watson, Sanders Close

Bluefaced Leicester Females:

1st – P Sowerby, Langton Field

2nd – C & N McNally, Anns Hill

3rd – P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall.

A great crowd of buyers were around the ring during the sale, making aged Swaledale rams a useful trade, whilst Bluefaced Leicesters were a strong trade throughout, peaking at £2,200 for a shearling ram from P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall which was by their Lunesdale sire, the same vendor also having a shearling ram at £1,000 by a Winkholme sire, Messrs F & M Moore, Highside topped the ram lamb trade at £1,300.

Bluefaced Leicester Aged Rams: £600 The Bog Farm; £520 Silverband; £420 Parson Shield; £320 Green Farm; £300 Kentmere Hall, Town Foot (Dixon).

Bluefaced Leicester Ram Lambs: £1,300, £400, £300 Highside (Moore); £750 Anns Hill; £400 The Bog Farm.

Bluefaced Leicester Females: £360 Keisley Farm; £240, £200 Anns Hill; £150 (2) Jerriestown; £120, £100 Rouge Garth; £110 Hesley Well.

Texel Rams: £220 Colstons; £200 Spedding Farm.
