Lazonby Mule Gimmer Lambs
Wednesday 28th September 2005

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held the ‘Alston Moor’ sale of Mule gimmer lambs at Lazonby mart on Wednesday 28th September 2005, where there was an entry of 22,552 head. As usual a huge crowd descended upon the mart, even though the weather was terrible, and there was a tremendous number of 164 successful purchasers. This produced an overall average of £55.05, which was down on the year.

Top price of the day went to the Champion pen of NEMSA lambs from Mr R H Lord, The Bog Farm, Alston which sold for £192 each to Mr Thomlinson, Bolton Parks.

A fantastic number of 19 pens were out for showing and the results from the show for NEMSA members lambs, kindly sponsored by HSBC Bank, Novartis Animal Health, L A Smith Sheep Scanning and judged by Mr I Edmondson, Ulverston, Mr G Mather, Angus and Mr R Little, Hesket Newmarket provided the following awards:

1st – receiving the William Armstrong Memorial Cup – Mr R H Lord, The Bog Farm, Alston.

2nd – Messrs G R Wharton & Sons, Keisley Farm, Murton

3rd – Mr L Smith, Roachburn Farm, Brampton

4th – Messrs G R Wharton & Sons, Keisley Farm, Murton

5th – Messrs J Lee & Son, Agars Hill, Whitfield.

6th – Messrs G R & P H Morton, Church Farm, Gamblesby.
