STORE & BREEDING SHEEP / Whiteley Hey & Tercrosset sale report


WHITELEY HEY FLOCK

On Friday 26th August 2005, Harrison & Hetherington held the fourth annual production sale of Beltex cross Texel breeding sheep on behalf of Messrs Slater from the Whiteley Hey flock. The sheep were once again presented in tremendous condition. The concentrating breeding policy at Whiteley Hey on shape backed up with tremendous tight skins, the sheep on offer exhibited these characteristics.

Regular purchasers at the sale were enhanced with several new faces eager to obtain these quality bloodlines.

The females set off a cracking pace as the first pen of older ewes all realising over £200 with a top of £230 each to Messrs Bindloss & Son of Shap Abbey. This figure being exceeded as Mr WN Tilley of Cefndu Farm, Denbighshire paid £260 for a truly wonderful pen of shearling gimmers.

The ewe lambs also attracted a great deal of interest topping at £175 for a magnificent pen of six, and were purchased by Mr SJ Harryman of Keskadale, Keswick.

The top trade, although not reaching the heights of last year, was excellent as the consignment of over 100 breeding rams met with spirited bidding averaging well over £500.

The £1,000 barrier was broken five times with a price of 1,600gns being paid for a shearling which went to Northern Ireland.

Leading prices:- Females: Shearling gimmers £260, £240, £200 (x2), £160. 2 shear ewes £230 (x2), £220, £200. Ewe lambs £175, £160 (x2), £150, £100 (x2). Rams: Shearlings 1,600gns, 1,000gns (x4), 900gns, 880gns, 800gns.

TERCROSSET FLOCK

On Friday 26th August 2005, Harrison & Hetherington conducted the third production sale of 40 Texel cross Beltex shearling rams on behalf of James Whiteford of Tercrosset Farm. Stock was yet again in exceptional condition and great breed characteristics, trade was seen to be very good with a sale average of £532. Purchasers were well traveled with rams ending up local and as far as Perth and Stirling.

Leading prices – 900gns, 800gns (x3), 750gns, 700gns, 650gns (x3), 620gns, 600gns, 550gns, 500gns (x5).
