BREEDING SHEEP AT LOCKERBIE

At the annual sale of breeding sheep at Lockerbie on Tuesday 24th August 2004, Harrison and Hetherington Ltd sold 4,244 head.

Half Bred Gimmers and Ewe Lambs were once again the order of day with more forward and a crowded ringside for this breed, a buoyant trade prevailed. One of the features of the sale, as a whole was the demand for quality breeding sheep with the best sheep easily sold at a premium rate.

Top price of the day went to M/s JM Wharton & Son, Snade, Dunscore with a choice pen which sold at £110 to M/s Wade, Skipton. Other top lots sold to £100 for a pen from Mr A Ross, Wardhead, Strichen.

Half Bred Ewe lambs probably met the biggest trade for years with lambs generally not as strong. Top price went to Mr G Scott, Annandale with a top pen which sold at £95 to Mr Burton, Derby.

Cheviot Mule Gimmers sold to £80 for pens from Mr Milroy, Mains of Machermore, Newton Stewart and Mr D McGarva, Granton, Moffat.

Suffolk x Half Bred Gimmers sold to £83 from Mr J McTaggart, Dunjop with Scotch Mule Gimmers to £87 from Mr S Wilson, Linns, Collin.

Scotch Mule Ewe Lambs to £58 from Castlemilk Estates, Scalehill. Texel x Gimmers to £74 from Mr J Jardine, Pillmuir with Texel x Ewe lambs to £60 from Mr R Wilson, Marwhin, Moniaive.
