Lazonby Rams

A bid of £2,400 led the sale of Bluefaced Leicester, Swaledale and Other Breed rams at Harrison & Hetherington’s Lazonby mart in Cumbria on Saturday, where there was an entry of 335 head. The ram, a Bluefaced Leicester Shearling was consigned by Messrs P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall, Kendal and sired by Lunesdale S11, whilst the dam sire was Farneyshields M1. The purchaser was Mr J Lawson, Kirkland Green, Mealsgate, Messrs Dawson went on to sell 6 rams at an average of £966.67.

Also having a good day and leading the flock averages at £1,350 for 3 sheep sold were Messrs F & M Moore & Son, from the Ashcleugh flock at High Side, Kellah. Using homebred sires, ram lambs were sold at £1,700 and £1,600 whilst a gimmer lamb was sold at £750. Martin Wallace, Farneyshield sold shearling rams to £1,500 for one sired by Hayshaw P1, whilst a gimmer shearling by Farneyshield R11 sold at £800. Messrs Lee, Morley Hill led their pen with a shearling ram at £1,400 which was from the homebred sire Morley R3. Also in with a shearling at £1,400 was local breeder Mr Derek Barker, Town Head, Ousby whose ram was by a homebred sire.

Leading the Swaledale section at £700 was a shearling ram from G Harker, Punchard. Messrs D Dargue & Son, Bank Top cashed one at £520 whilst a 4 shear ram from Messrs P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall which was bred at Thornthwaite Hall by a Murton Hall sire sold at £500.
