Continental in-lamb sheep fair

On Friday 10th December 2004, Harrison & Hetherington Limited, Carlisle held their annual continental in-lamb sheep fair.

Leading the sale at 700gns was a Texel ewe from Mrs Susan Barrett of Bardon Mill, Hexham. Her March born 2002 born ewe, a daughter to Glenside Goldfinger, sold in lamb to Thacka Inc and was knocked down to Messrs Boden & Davies Ltd of Mellor Hall Farm, Nr Stockport.

A Berrichon du Cher shearling gimmer from JA Keith & daughters of Riggs Head, Scarborough, sold for the next leading price of 500gns. Their gimmer sold in lamb to Weydale Sancerre and was successfully bought by D Scott of Coldingham, Eyemouth.

A Millenium Blue one crop ewe from Messrs Connor & Dalrymple of Bowness, West Lothian sold for 460gns. She sold in lamb to the group one Beltex ram, Ardstewart Garrison, and was purchased by IT Williams of Abergele, Clwyd.

Averages – Texel 5 ewes £304.50, 7 shearling gimmers £169.50; Berrichon du Cher 2 ewes £299.25, 3 shearling gimmers £350; Blue Texel shearling gimmer £210; Dutch Texel 3 ewes £192.50, 1 shearling gimmer £210; Crossbreds/Unregistered 34 head £149.43.
