“ Latter Fair” Suffolk Ram Show and Sale

On Thursday 16th September 2004 Harrison & Hetherington, Carlisle held their annual Latter Fair Show and Sale of Suffolk Shearling and Ram lambs. Suffolk Shearling Rams met with a very selective trade, heading the section was Ian Barbour, Beech Grove, Annan, Dumfriessshire, top price in this pen was £650 being purchased by Mr Douglas, Catslackburn , Yarrow. Next in line was £520 from the East Cliff pen from M/s Irving, East Cliff, Kirklinton, Carlisle purchased by Mr W Dugdale, Close House Farm, Giggleswick.

In the lamb section, the Barbour family featured again selling the Show Champion at £880 to Mr I Rawlinson, Quarry Bank Farm, Marton, Nr Ulverston, Next at £460 was the lamb that stood second to the Champion from M/s Armstrong, Townhead Farm, Walton, Brampton, the purchaser being M/s Chalmers, Outerwood Ltd, Canonbie. The same price tag secured the top lamb in the Oxgang Farm pen of M/s McClanachen, Carrutherstown Road, Dumfries with M/s Chalmers being the purchaser.

In general the lambs had a good quality show on offer with averages showing a rise of £22 on the year levelling at £246 although the shearlings were not as good a show, averages were up £30 on the year averaging £307.
