Whiteley Hey Ram
The Beltex cross Texel shearling ram which sold for £2,350 to Robert and Michael Scott, of Thirlwall Castle, Greenhead, Carlisle.

On Friday 27th August 2004, Harrison & Hetherington held the annual production sale on behalf of Messrs Slater from the Whiteley Hey Flock.

The combination of Beltex and Texel breeding created tremendous interest with the large contingent of regular purchasers being reinforced by several new prospective purchasers.

The sheep were presented in tremendous condition having superb confirmation and wonderful skins.

The shearling gimmers sold to the top price of £280 regularly exceeding £200 averaging a very satisfactory £166. The leading pen of gimmers were bought by B Price of Brytney, Hay on Wye, Hereford. Ewe lambs averaged £81 and sold to the top of £128 for a pen knocked down to BK Ryder of Newton Farm, Moffat, Dumfriesshire.

The ram section was buzzing as the first ram in the ring went for 1050gns. This trade continued peaking at 2350gns for a superb Beltex x Texel shearling ram which was purchased by Messrs Scott of Thirlwall Castle.

The four figure barrier was regularly broken this resulting in a magnificent average of over £600 for the consignment of rams.

Leading prices:-
Females: 3 shear ewes: £220. 2 shear ewes: £200, £190, £180 (x3), £150. Shearling gimmers: £280, £270, £200 (x2), £180 (x5), £150 (x2). Ewe lambs: £128, £98, £92. Rams: 2,350gns, 1,600gns, 1,250gns, 1,300gns, 1,100gns, 1,000gns (x2).

TERCROSSET FLOCK

On Friday 27th August 2004, Harrison & Hetherington conducted the second production sale of Beltex cross Texel shearling rams on behalf of Messrs Thomas & James Whiteford of Tercrosset Farm, West Hall.

With a wonderful reputation for breeding top quality rams the buyers gathered into Borderway centre to purchase a Tercrosset ram, thus giving a satisfactory average of £462.90 for a consignment of 40 head.

The leading price of the consignment was £1,050 for a powerful 2 shear ram which was successfully knocked down to Mr James Porter of Portellen, Islay, Argyll.
