LAZONBY SPECIAL SHEEP SALE

On Wednesday 1st October, Harrison & Hetherington
Ltd, Lazonby conducted the annual "Alston Moor Day" sale
of Mule Gimmer lambs, where there was a tremendous entry of 15,091 head
for this popular sale. Preceeding the sale saw the show for NEMSA members
with 14 pens being presented to the judges Mr George Harrison & Mr
Eddie Bullman who undertook a very difficult task. They awarded the following
prizes:
Champion & W Armstrong Memorial Trophy, L & V Smith, Roachburn £102
to Winter Bros. 2nd GR Wharton & Son, Keisley Farm £98 to Winter
Bros. 3rd JW Smith-Jackson, High Town £96 to Messrs Ridsdale. 4th
W Reed & Son, The Knarr £86 to JC & I Walton. 5th R Lord,
The Bog £100 to JB Holliday & Son. 6th J Lee, Agars Hill £78
to M Edmondson.
Cuustomers were drawn from all parts of the UK and in general lambs were
a good trade, to average £70.57 (up £7.12 on 2002) with running
lambs looking dearer when compared to tupping lambs. Vendors seemed pleased
with prices achieved, which with the great weather capped a fantastic
day at Lazonby Mart.
