“LATTER FAIR” SUFFOLK RAMS

On Friday 19th September 2003 Harrison & Hetherington, Carlisle held their annual Latter Fair Show and Sale of Suffolk Shearling and Ram lambs.

The pre-sale show was most ably judged by sheep expert Mr J Barber, Halton Park, Lancaster.

In the shearling section Maurice Kennedy, Roman Vale, Long Martin was awarded the red rosette selling to £520. In the lamb section 34 lambs were presented to the judge with 1st and supreme champion going to regular sale supporter Mr D Martindale, Land, Ecclefechan the tup later selling for £500 to Mr JM Robinson, Greenlands, Grimsby.

The top price of the day £650 going for an extremly well grown shearling consigned by Mr JP Dunn, Chapelknowe, Colmslie. The top price in the ram lambs being £600 for an exceptional lamb presented by Mr IR Barbour, Beech Grove, Annan.

Trade throughout the day did not reach the heights of last year, however most vendors left the ring satisfied.
