Harrison & Hetherington conducted their annual special prize Show and sale of Mule gimmer shearlings at Lazonby Auction Mart on Thursday, 12th September 2002, where the catalogue entry of 13,117 head was presented to a vast company of buyers drawn from all areas of the U.K.

The sale proved to be the largest sale of mule shearlings anywhere in the country this year and the excellent average of £75.15 per head reflected the tremendous quality of sheep being presented at this centre, and with many of the regular annual consignors of sheep forward with their entries, all went away most pleased with their days work.

The show took place on the morning of sale with prizes very kindly donated by Youngs Animal Health and Jobsons Farm Health. The judges, Philip and Denise Elliot of Bank House Farm, had a very difficult job, due to the quality of sheep and after much deliberation awarded the following prizes:
1st & Champion & MJ Davidson Memerial Trophy – J W R Allen, Oak Bank, Long Marton.
2nd W L Grainger, Eamont Bridge Farm, Penrith
3rd W L Grainger, Eamont Bridge Farm, Penrith
4th W M Hutchinson & Sons, Redgate, Kaber, Kirkby Stephen

The champion pen of sheep went onto sell for £105 per head and were purchased by Mr Wain, Ashbourne, Derbyshire. However the top price of the day was £108 per head, achieved on two separate occasions by Mr W L Grainger, Eamont Bridge Farm, one lot purchased by Messrs ME & JJ Fell, Stanger Hill, Torpenhow, the second lot by Messrs Stark, Perthshire.
