LAZONBY Harrison & Hetherington conducted their opening sale of Mule gimmer lambs at Lazonby Mart where there was an entry of 3652 head followed by 610 store lambs. Trade was buoyant with many regular customers present, both local and from a far, and resulted in a highly satisfactory overall sale average £63.60 per head. There was a prize show for NEMSA members, very kindly sponsored by Skelton Agricultural Society and Ivomec. The judges Messrs Gibson, Toadpool, Kendal had an extremely difficult job with the show pens all being of excellent quality. The Championship and Joe Armstrong Memorial Cup for the best pen of 10 lambs was awarded to Messrs T Carrick & Son, High Crossgill, Garrigill, Alston, with the 2nd prize to J Lee, Morley Hill and 3rd & 4th to L & V Smith, Roachburn. With the trade as strong as it is, all vendors went away highly satisfied and a large entry is anticipated for the next sale in two weeks time.
