LAZONBY On Wednesday 16th October 2002, at Lazonby Mart, Harrison & Hetherington held their third sale of Mule gimmer lambs, store lambs and Swaledale ewes where there was a total entry of 7093 head of sheep. Mule gimmer lambs were forward in good number and sold to a ready trade with a good ringside of purchasers looking to buy “running lambs”. An overall sale average of £53.35 was achieved, which was pleasing considering the size of the lambs on offer. Top price of the day was £84 per head achieved first by Messrs AH Barker, Townhead, Ousby, and later in the day by RH Lord, Bog Farm, Slaggyford, Alston. Store lambs also found a ready market with a ring full of potential purchasers, many going home dissapointed, many more are required to satisfy demand. The Swaledale ewes on offer were mainly older correct ewes or broken mouthed and sold well to a top of £32 to average £22.
