HARRISON & HETHERINGTON LIMITED - LAZONBY On Wednesday 2nd October 2002, Harrison & Hetherington held their second sale (Alston Moor Sale) of Mule gimmer lambs at Lazonby Mart where there was an entry of 11,355 head presented to an extremly good ringside of buyers where a swift trade was experienced, with lambs being sold to all corners of the UK, to finish with a overall sale average of £64.10 per head. The Lazonby branch of NEMSA held a prize show for members of the association and the judges, Mr M Watson, Kirkby Stephen, Mr F Jackson, Reagill Mr G Harrison, Southwaite had a very difficult task due to the exceptional quality of sheep in the show. However the final awards were as follows:- 1st and William Armstrong Memorial Trophy J Lee, Morley Hill, Whitfield, 2nd JW Smith Jackson, Hightown, Whitfield, 3rd & 4th J Lee, Agars Hill, Whitfield, 5th Messrs Raine, Old Parks, Kirkoswald, 6th W & E Reed, Knarr Farm, Alston. Top price of the day was £140, for a quality pen of lambs from M & ME Wallace, Farney Shields purchased by JWR Allen, Oakbank, Long Morton, the same vendor also had lambs at £100 on two other occasions.
