BORDERWAY EURO BREEDING SHEEP SALE REPORT

On Thursday 5th September 2002, Harrison & Hetherington, Carlisle held there annual show & sale of Euro Breeding sheep when they presented 31 ewes, 2178 shearling gimmers and 550 ewe lambs. A large ring of buyers were bidding cautiously with quality sheep selling at a premium.

In the pre-sale judging, which was carried out by Mr Simon Bindloss, Shap Abbey, Shap the Championship ticket was presented to a pen of Texel cross shearling gimmers , from Messrs R & J Osborne, Castlehill, Durideer, Thornhill which later realised at £102 each to Messrs M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey, Shap, Penrith.

The reserve position was awarded to Mr A Jackson Covington Mill Farm, Thankerton, Biggar for a pen of Beltex cross Shearling gimmers which also sold at £102 a piece to Mr SJ Stoddart, Hill Side, Wigton.

Class 3 Beltex cross ewe lambs: 1st Mr A Jackson, Covington Mill, 2nd Messrs JM Wharton & Son, Snade Farm.
Class 5 Texel Shearling Gimmers: 1st Messrs R & J Osborne, Castle Hill.
Class 6 Shearling Gimmers sired by any other continental breed: 1st & 2nd Messrs JM Wharton & Son, Snade Farm.
