UK DAIRY EXPO MAIN SPONSORS ANNOUNCED
Press Release 22nd September 2011
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, organisers of the country’s latest all-breeds dairy show, UK Dairy Expo, this week announced the main sponsors for the inaugural agricultural event. The new-style dairy show, aimed at commercial and pedigree breeders, takes place on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd March 2012 within the company’s recently completed million pound Exhibition Centre at its Borderway complex, Carlisle.
UK Dairy Expo announced it has secured sponsorship from several leading companies including Cattle Information Services (CIS) Cogent Breeding, Farmers Guardian, First Milk, Norbrook Pharmaceuticals as well as, attracting international sponsorship from Ponderosa Holsteins, Spain, according to Borderway Operations Director David Pritchard.
“We’re delighted to announce our main sponsors for this prestigious and innovative dairy show. The event is aimed at helping to promote and develop UK cattle breeding on a national, European and global-basis. The company is extremely grateful to its main sponsors in helping to provide a series of unique opportunities aimed at benefitting UK farm businesses as well as the next generation of dairy farmers. We will be announcing a full programme of events in due course,” he said.
The
main UK Dairy Expo sponsors include; Cattle Information Services (CIS)
a farmer-owned and controlled, milk recording and data organisation.
CIS is involved with all the leading cattle organisations with the aim
of providing its members with improved standards of service and accuracy
as well as increasing levels of value across all dairy herd management
information practices.
The
UK’s largest bull stud, Cogent Breeding, also joins the event as a main
sponsor. A pioneer in sexed-semen technology, Cogent is the world’s leading
supplier of sexed semen with over ten years experience of marketing the
product to over 35 countries worldwide. The company procures the best
available global genetics for its breeding programmes and recently acquired
World Wide Sires UK and Dairy Daughters as part of its expanding Cogent
Group company portfolio.
Leading
UK agricultural weekly publication Farmers Guardian is a main sponsor
as well as the official UK Dairy Expo media partner. On sale every Friday,
Farmers Guardian is farming’s national newspaper, and covers all sectors
of the industry throughout the UK. Written for farmers, about farming,
it provides the latest news and business information, in-depth technical
articles and detailed on-farm features. The publication also supports
many agricultural shows, sales and events throughout the UK.
Other
main sponsors include, First Milk, the largest dairy farmer owned business
operating in the UK. The milk giant supplies over 1.6 billion litres
annually, approximately 16% of the country's supply. In the past three
years, First Milk’s innovative approach has turned Lake District Cheese
into a £50million retail asset and the brand is now the third highest
selling cheddar cheese variety in Britain.
Norbrook,
established in 1968, is the only home-grown British pharmaceutical company.
Norbrook has since grown and developed into one of the world’s leading
pharmaceutical businesses and is recognized as a global leader in the
development of innovative veterinary and animal health medicines. Today,
the company manufactures and markets products to over 120 countries worldwide.
Earlier this year, Norbrook was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
International
main sponsor, Ponderosa Holsteins, is recognised as being one of the
worlds’ leading pedigree dairy producers. Owned by Augustin Celis Romero,
Ponderosa milk over 300 pedigree Holsteins near Andorra, Spain, and is
firmly established as a leading buyer and consignor of top quality genetics.
Over the years, Ponderosa has invested heavily in many of the UK’s and
world’s leading cow families and continues to further invest in its herd
development having recently completed a new state-of-the-art 400 cow
unit.
UK Dairy Expo’s dynamic format includes youth showmanship young stock classes, taking place on Friday afternoon. The show is also open to breeders from Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland as well as mainland Europe. Young breeders from several European countries are also expected to compete in the showmanship classes.
The dairy cow in-milk classes take place the following day and at the conclusion of the Championship on Saturday afternoon, UK Dairy Expo will host a sale of 20 elite pedigree animals. On Saturday evening, the event programme concludes with a banquet featuring the presentation of the 2011 All-Britain Awards by Holstein UK.
UK Dairy Expo is expected to attract over 100 trade stands as well as a large visitor attendance. The Borderway complex is ideally situated being adjacent to the M6 and provides easy visitor access as well as ample car and lorry parking facilities states Mr Pritchard.
“The facilities at Borderway are first class and easily located. The show will be the first high profile agricultural event of 2012 and provides commercial and pedigree dairy farmers with the opportunity to industry network as well as view and exhibit the best UK owned animals. The event has filled a seven month window within the farming calendar that would otherwise not offer provision of a major UK agricultural show.
“UK Dairy Expo’s exciting format provides a unique opportunity to show; promote; market and sell top quality dairy cattle within one national venue. Harrison & Hetherington is committed to help develop UK dairy farming, and along with support from our generous sponsors, help provide a positive future for the industry,” he concluded.
