BALISE TAKES BORDERWAY UK DAIRY EXPO CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN

The inaugural Borderway UK Dairy Expo produced a sensational event, electric atmosphere and thousands of visitors in attendance, as many of the UK’s top cows competed for show honours. At the conclusion, the Borderway Champion of Champions title was scooped by Weeton LHeros A Balise Ex94, owned by Andrew and Pat Wilson, Fife, Scotland.

Internationally renowned judge Donald Dubois, Quebec, Canada, select the stylish seven-year old his first-place Mature Cow and Best Udder in Class, Senior Champion, Best Udder of The Show and Grand Champion Holstein. Reserve Holstein Champion was Bill and Yasmin Nadin’s homebred Sterndale Shottle Ghost.

In collaboration with Red and White, British Friesian and Components Breed judge, Brad Sayles, Ontario, Balise was named as UK Dairy Expo Champion of Champions. The stylish Comestar LHeros daughter was purchased for 6,000gns ($9,000) in the Weeton Dispersal Sale. Fresh in November 2011, she is yielding 59kgs per day.

Borderway Reserve Champion of Champions title was awarded to the Red and White Champion, Corringham Bob Roxy Red Ex93, sired by JA Bob Jordan Red and owned by Riverdane Holsteins, Morgan and Bourke syndicate.

The seven dairy breeds represented at the show included many outstanding individuals including Andrew and Pat Wilson’s Jersey Champion, Whispering Springs Iatola Sally. Sired by SC Gold Dust Paramount Iatola, the Wilson family, in partnership with Timberel Jerseys were also awarded Reserve Champion Jersey with Enchanted Iatola Ariel.

A strong display of Ayrshires resulted in Heydale Winsome 109 taking the Ayrshire Breed Championship and Best Udder of The Show. Owned by the Beresford family, Buxton, Derby; Heydale also received the Ayrshire Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor Awards. Reserve Champion was awarded to Cuthill Towers Zola 12, winner of the Two-Year-Old class, owned, bred and exhibited by Arthur Lawrie and family, Kinross.

Commenting on the show, Borderway UK Dairy Expo Livestock co-ordinator Glyn Lucas said. “The event has been a tremendous success and I’d like to thank all the cattle exhibitors and sale consignors for making the inaugural show such a wonderful occasion. I’d also like to congratulate our breed judges, Brad Sayles and Donald Dubois, as well as International Youth Championship judge, Erica Rijneveld, for their participation and deliberations.

“The quality of cattle on display was at the highest level and owners and staff should be congratulated on turning out the animals in peak condition. On behalf of the Dairy Expo team, I would also like to thank all our sponsors, trade exhibitors and visitors for their involvement.”
