A large ringside of buyers and enthusiasts gathered for the Galloway Society annual spring show and sale at Carlisle. Buyers had travelled from as far afield as Northern Ireland, Nottinghamshire, Cornwall and Yorkshire.

Heading the sale at 1,700gns was a 23 month old bull shown by Kirkcudbrightshire breeders G & K Gilligan of Gatehouse of Fleet. Jigsaw of High Creoch, a son of Excelsior of High Creoch and out of a Sovereign of High Creoch bred mother, he sold to DW Osborne of Welton, Carlisle.

Close behind at 1,600gns was the second bull entry from Messrs Gilligan of Gatehouse of Fleet. Kiosk of High Creoch, an October 2009 born entry b y Septimus of Tweedshaws and out of a Barfil Bombadier sired dam, he was knocked down to Yorkshire enthusiasts JA Morphet & Son of Horton in Ribblesdale.

Leading the female pedigree section at 1,000gns were two heifers from the Barlaes herd belonging to R & M Ferguson of Castle Douglas. First to enter the sale ring was Barlaes Nancy 138th a daughter of the noted Ben Lomond Maximus sire and out of a Zebedee of Meiklewood sired mother. This bulling heifer was purchased by Northern Ireland breeder J McCurdy of Ballymena, Co.Antrim.
Mr McCurdy also bought the second 1,000gn bid heifer who also came from the Barlaes pen. This was Barlaes Katie 49th another daughter by Ben Lomond Maximus with her mothers line going back to Barfil Bombadier.
In the non-pedigree section, a bull consigned by Messrs Ferguson of Barlaes sold for 1,200gns. Barlaes Ivanhoe, an April 2009 entry sired by Ben Lomond Maximus was sold to Wilson of Woodside Ltd, Wreay, Carlisle.
The non-pedigree female entries produced a top price of £720 for a bulling heifer offered by Mr AJ Elliot of Hindhope, Jedburgh. She was purchased by A & A Hogg & Son of Milnholm, Langholm.
