Pedigree Dairy Day - 14th December

The final sale of 2011 for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club was a total success with a complete clearance and an impressive average of £2123. 75% of the sale sold for £2000 and above to reach a top of 2,600gns twice. [report]

 

Black & White

Harrison & Hetherington celebrated its 25th Anniversary Black & White Sale in style with the best ever consignment of animals, an electric atmosphere, top prices and wonderful people. Buyers from eight countries and bidders from over thirteen nations saw prices peak at 15,000gns with the sale averaging £4215 for nearly a complete clearance. [report]

 

Pedigree Dairy Day - 23rd November

Pedigree dairy day at Borderway on Wednesday 23rd November was celebrated with a wonderful line up top quality heifers for sale. The best show of Holstein milkers seen for a long time at the Border and Lakeland club event was followed by the final sale to disperse the highly regarded Highoaks Herd of Edward, Linda and Steven Wilson. Ayrshire Sale - 2nd November

Record entry numbers, packed visitor attendance and BBC Children In Need cameras, created an electrifying atmosphere as a record sale price of 5,000gns was achieved for one of the Ayrshire breed’s top young show cows. [report]

 

Pedigree Dairy Day - 19th October

The monthly pedigree dairy show and sale at Borderway Mart on 19th October saw a variety of fresh Holstein and Friesian heifers and two dispersal batches of in calf and maiden heifers. The overall average of newly calved cows and heifers of just over £2000 a piece doesn’t tell the whole story because the trade, as keen as ever, was much more quality selective than previous sales. Record Average for Pedigree Dairy Bulls

The annual September Holstein and Friesian bull show and sale at Borderway Mart on Thursday 22nd September was fantastically well supported by vendors and buyers alike. The 23rd successive sale saw a catalogued entry of 62 to level at over £3100 a piece – a record average for this event. [report]

 

Foxy Bingo is Champion

The September Border & Lakeland Holstein Show and Sale took place on Wednesday 14th at Borderway, Carlisle. Trade remained vibrant with local buyers displaying plenty of enthusiasm for top type and pedigree. [report]

 

Jersey Heifers at 4100gns

Dairy cattle of all breeds, ages and type went under the hammer at the monthly pedigree dairy cattle day at Borderway Mart on the 17th August. The real “Headline” heifer though was in the Jersey section of the sale. “Clydevalley May Flora” (Lot 66) from Robert Hunter and family herd at Shotts, Lanarkshire was knocked down for 4100gns to Messrs Jamieson of “Woodhead”. Trade remains strong at Borderway

There was an extensive array and variety on offer at Borderway on Wednesday 20th July for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Show & Sale. Buyers from four Countries and ten Counties packed the ring for this sale which also featured the complete dispersal of the Dunnottar herd from Aberdeen and a special consignment of British Friesian heifers from the Lismulligan herd in Fife. Drointon Holsteins from Staffordshire had a consignment of show calves with deep pedigrees complemented by a consignment of bulling heifers from the local Miltonmains herd. [report]

 

Big Crowds At Mossrigg

One of the largest Holstein dispersal sales to take place this year took place on Thursday & Friday 16th & 17th June at Dolphenby Farm near Penrith in Cumbria. The Mossrigg herd was owned by Jonathan and Joanne Fisher, who, in a short period of time had developed a fantastic herd. It was built of sound foundations with a balanced approach to breeding a high producing, high type, long life cow. [report]

As one has come to expect the monthly pedigree dairy show & sale at Borderway comprised a terrific entry of well bred heifers, a third of which made over £2000. [report]

 

Holstein UK Elite Sale Peaks at 23,000gns

A top price of 23,000gns and an outstanding average of £4076 was achieved at the Holstein UK Genetic Elite Sale held at Borderway on Monday 6th June. [report]

 

Findowrie Herd Dispersal

Trade was excellent but interesting in as much as the buyers priorities were a bit different from the previous dispersals. The average of over £1500 a head (with no heifer calves) was the same but the trade was much more level than has been seen recently. [report]

 

Pedigree Dairy Day - 16th May

The monthly club show and sale of pedigree Holsteins was enhanced by several consighnments of fresh heifers from well respected but not regular selling breeders. This together with a decent overall quality show and the strong demand generally, resulted in a terrific trade throughout to average over £2100 for a total clearout of females. [report]

 

Niscot Herd Dispersal

Nicky Scott dispersed the milking portion of his Niscot herd of pedigree Holsteins on Friday 13th May 2011. [report]

 

Lhanbryde Herd Dispersal

The Milne family of Elgin, Morayshire travelled 300 miles to disperse the milking portion of their “Lhanbryde” herd of pedigree Holsteins on Wednesday 11th of May. [report]

 

Dutch Heifers

This was the first sale of Dutch heifers to take place in the UK through the auction ring and it attracted a diverse crowd of buyers from across the UK. [report]

 

Highoaks Dispersal

“Great Cattle, Great Sale” pretty well sums up the second dispersal of the “Highoaks” herd of Pedigree Holsteins in Borderway Mart on Wednesday 27th April. [report]

 

Pedigree Dairy Day & Spring Sale of Coloured Dairy Cattle - 20th April

This sale had something for everyone; from big and milky Holstein cows to young newly born Jersey calves and well blended Red & White heifers. [report]

 

Annual Spring Bull Show and Sale - 13th April

Pedigree dairy bulls of all shapes, sizes and pedigrees were in terrific demand at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 13th April 2011. [report]

 

Pedigree Dairy Day - 16th March

The monthly Border & Lakeland Club Show and Sale had very few entries; in part no doubt due to the excellent cast cow trade enabling dairy farmers to clean out older problem cows and retain heifers. [report]

The large attendance of buyers at the monthly Border and Lakeland club show and sale at Borderway on Wednesday 23rd February were confronted with a terrific line up with super uddered, productive and fresh heifers and young cows from which to choose. [report]

 

Pedigree Dairy Day - 19th January

For the second month running the Champion at the Border & Lakeland Club sale came from Alan Cannon of Espland Holsteins. She was sired by Braedale Pagewire bred from a classy Stormatic dam with over 11,000kgs as a four year old. [report]
