New Centre Record for Mule Gimmer Lambs

The annual Latter Fair show and sale of Mule gimmer lambs presented a catalogued entry of 5775 head at Borderway, Carlisle on Thursday 15th September.

The honour of carrying out the judging was put in the capable hands of Mr Jim Winter of Clickham and Mr I Edmondson of Stoneycarg with Mr Raymond Heigh of Bentham acting as referee.

A show of truly outstanding quality lambs were presented in front of the judges with twelve pens being put forward for the show. After much deliberation, the championship rosette was won by Messrs F & M Moore & Son of Highside which went onto later sell for £220 and were purchased by Messrs Jenkinson of Clifton Moor.

A new centre record price was set of £420 for the reserve champion entry pen shown by Mr John Smith-Jackson of Hightown. The successful buyer was Mr Robert Carter of Parcelstown, Longtown.

The sale itself was a resounding success with both local and travelled buyers prepared to go that extra mile for the marvellous quality presented before them.

The sale levelled out at £116.74 showing a rise on the year of £16.50, leaving all vendors highly delighted with the day’s trading.

On Thursday 15th September at Borderway Mart, Harrison & Hetherington held their ‘Latter Fair’ annual show and sale of 552 Suffolk, Texels and other continental Rams.

A useful selection of rams of all breeds met a selective enquiry with customers prepared to pay for a quality sheep. The show was kindly sponsored by Capontree Vets and Dodd and Co Chartered Accountants.
