Weekly Commercial Dairy Sale Report
Wampool Grange Dispersal - 25th August
Harrison & Hetherington held the dispersal sale for SJ Baird, Wampool
Grange, Kirkbride, Wigton on Wednesday 25th August in Borderway Mart,
Carlisle. The sale was well supported by friends and neighbours with
all cows selling well. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 18th August
200 head of dairy animals of all breeds and ages went under the hammers
at Borderway Mart on Wednesday 18th August. Following the
commercial sale of mostly Friesian and Holstein fresh calved cows and
heifers, which sold well was the monthly Pedigree Show & Sale for
the Border
& Lakeland Club. [report]
Causeway Classic - 11th August
Elite Holstein heifers reached a ceiling of 10,200gns at the Causeway
Classic II, held at Balmoral. There was a buoyant trade for
high type calves with the auctioneers, Glyn Lucas and Willie Wilson,
reporting a seventy five per cent clearance, resulting in the 22 lots
commanding an average of £3,882 per head. [report]
Bolton Parks Sale - 4th August
Harrison & Hetherington
held the dispersal sale for Messrs F&E Thomlinson & Son, Bolton
Park, Mealsgate of the entire Milking portion following the sale of the
farm the sale ring was filled with volume purchasers from Devon and Norfolk
to the North of Scotland. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 21st July
A superb consignment of freshly calved cows and heifers
were sold at the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club show and sale on
Wednesday 21st July. The heifers averaged £2049 with a top of 3,000gns,
cows averaged £1666 with a top of 2,100gns including the commercial sale
prior to the club sale the average on the day was just over £1,800 for
70 head. [report]
Changue Herd Sale
- 7th July
One of the biggest crowds seen at Borderway for some time
assembled to see Robert Stevenson disperse a selection of his renowned
Changue herd. The Changue herd is now the longest established pedigree
Ayrshire herd in the UK going back to the start of the 20th Century. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 16th June
Numbers of freshly calved cows and heifers were down in
June at the Border & Lakeland Holstein club sale; however the quality
was high with many super uddered animals selling. There was an atmosphere
of confidence with the weather and a future rise in milk price helping
to improve the short term outlook for milk producers. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 19th May
A smaller entry than normal at the monthly Pedigree Dairy Cattle Sale
comprised a varied quality show of fresh young cows and heifers. The
trade was steady without being sensational and buyers were able to purchase
decent animals between 1700gns and 2000gns.

Dispersal of the Waterside House Holstein Herd -
5th May
A longstanding family tradition of owning and breeding
good quality dairy cattle came to an end on Wednesday 5th May when Messrs
Fairbairn, Waterside House dispersed their Waterside
House herd of Holsteins. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 21st April
Variety was the keyword at Borderway on Wednesday 21st
April for their monthly pedigree dairy show and sale. Variety of breeds,
quality and age with fresh cows to maiden heifers of all sorts on offer.

Holywood Herd Third Sale - 7th April
The third and final sale to disperse the highly regarded
“Holywood” herd of pedigree Holstein cattle took place at Borderway Mart
on Wednesday 7th April. This comprised all the followers from served
heifers down to seven month old calves. [report]
Little Broomhills & Bolton Park - 31st March
Harrison and Hetherington dispersed the milking
portion of Holstein Friesian cattle for KJ Barker from Little Broomhills
and the young
stock portion of coloured hybrid cattle from Messrs F&E Tomlinson & Son,
Bolton Park. [report]
Holywood Herd Second Sale - 24th March
Buyers from the length and breadth
of the UK descended on Borderway to compete for Robert
and Mary Whiteford’s Holywood herd of Pedigree Holsteins. Cattle went
to Kent, Aberdeen, Ireland and pretty well everywhere in between. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 17th March
The late spring and the need to for milk companies to start paying a
fair price for milk reflected in the female prices which were down
on the month. Demand for bulls of all ages was strong; bulls were
dispersed across the UK and Ireland with an 80% clearance and an average
of £1930. [report]
Holywood Herd First Sale - 3rd March
The first instalment of the Holywood
Holstein Dispersal of 250 recently calved and close to calving cows and
heifers was held in Borderway Mart, on Wednesday 3rd March. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 24th February
Auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington reported an “interesting”
trade at the monthly pedigree dairy club show and sale. Expanding on
this Glyn Lucas of H&H said “ We have seen definite pattern emerge
recently, in both the commercial and pedigree sale ring. [report]
Pedigree Dairy Day - 20th January
The first sale of 2010 for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club took place
at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 20th January. There were a smaller number
of animals catalogued due to the big freeze however 50 fresh cows and heifers
were sold on the day. [report]
