Although there were only 31 catalogued in the monthly pedigree dairy sale the quality of fresh heifers and second calf cows was good. Selling was “hard work” with buyers animals being very choosy, picking on only a few rather than bulk buying “to fill” the milk tanks. As a result some sold quite well and some not so.

Top price of 2000gns was for a daughter of the British bred sire Dalebank Zen Roger (Zenith x Roxy) out of the “Anne” family developed by the vendors Messrs Wilson of the Stowbeck herd but originating at Highoaks. This heifer was Reserve Champion being pipped in the show by a very smart, milky, white heifer from Messrs Cannon of “Espland”, sired by Cedarwal Spirte and of a Modesto “Maisie” dam she sold six weeks calved for 1800gns.

At 1900gns was one of four heifers from Messrs Yates of the “Logan” herd. This fresh heifer from the “Dorothy” family was by the Durham x Skychief sire, “Penn-Gate Finest”.
