Dispersal of the Riggmill herd of Pedigree Holsteins
Wednesday 22nd September 2010

The well respected, local “Riggmill” Pedigree Holstein Herd belonging to Messrs Harrington of Kirkbride, Carlisle attracted a large crowd of commercial and pedigree dairy farmers to Harrison & Hetherington’s Borderway Mart on Wednesday 22nd September.

As has been the trend recently the trade was good, albeit quality selective. Although cows with blemishes are much harder to sell than earlier in the summer, correct, smart good wearing young cows and heifers attracted great interest with twenty or so making £1500 or more to a top of 2000gns. This bid was from Messrs J Dixon & Son of Lesson Hall, Wigton. This was for an April calved 2nd lactation daughter of Comestar Leader.

Heifer calves and youngstock were keenly bid for all day with the ones under a year old consistently between 500gns and 600gns.
