Boclair do it with Elegance
A superb consignment of freshly calved cows and heifers were sold at the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club show and sale in Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 21st July. The heifers averaged £2049 with a top of 3,000gns, cows averaged £1666 with a top of 2,100gns including the commercial sale prior to the club sale the average on the day was just over £1,800 for 70 head.

The show was judges by Mr Richard Armstrong from the famous Wolfa herd near Penrith, he confidently placed three classes tapping out his Champion from the winner in the Junior two year old class. She was Boclair Lou Elegance and was potentially the eighty generation of Excellent classified cows. She was sired by Jeeny-Lou Marshall and from a VG85 2yr Durham dam followed by an Excellent 92 full sister to the All American Budjon-JK Linjet Eileen EX96. She was consigned by J. Brewster, Boclair Farm and was purchased by A&B Bargh, Woodclose, Skelton for the top price of the day for 3,000gns.

The judge then proved his worth by selecting his reserve Champion from the same class going to the second Junior two year old owned by the Hodgson’s from Wormanby Farm, Burgh by Sands. She was Wormanby Champion Lisa sired by Champion from six dams classified in the top two grades. She was producing 34kgs and sold for the second top price of the day to J&J Barr Farm Ltd, Easter Bucklyvie, Fife for 2,400gns
Regular consignors Skirwith Hall Farms had another fantastic consignment their top price selling for 2,250gns. She was for a daughter of Pachecas Aaron Almeria from the high producing Juliet family at Stowbeck, she now joins the herd of J&J Barr Farm Ltd, Easter Bucklyvie, Fife.
The Brough’s from Bolton Cottage Farm, Bolton Low Houses sold a deep bodied powerful heifer for 2,150gns. She was sired by Berryholme Flo Emense, a son of the All Britain Holmland Storm Flo EX94 her maternal line consisted of an Excellent dam and Very Good 87 grand dam.
First time consignor Noel McCarragher, Fernycleugh, Lochmaben consigned six dairy heifers all with supper udders and tremendous legs and feet. These heifers attracted brisk bidding with two heifers topping at 1,750gns
