Top Families Top Changue
One of the biggest crowds seen at Borderway for some time assembled to
see Robert Stevenson disperse a selection of his renowned Changue herd.
The Changue herd is now the longest established pedigree Ayrshire herd
in the UK going back to the start of the 20th Century. Animals from all
the top families went under the hammer and included the Celandines, Milkmaid,
Polly and some prolific Holstein families were also on offer with decedents
of Blackstar Lola EX94, Storm Ivy EX95 and TT Triuna EX94 catalogued.

Many buyers had previously purchased Changue cattle and were aware of their breeding and production potential. There was three animals sold at 2,200gns and thirteen sold to 2,000 and above. The first to sell for 2,200gns was Changue Celandine 141 GP83 fresh in May she was potentially the fifth generation of VG cows. She was from the same family as he UK top sire Changue Tryst she now joins the herd of Holehouse Farms, Holehouse, Kilbirnie, Ayrshire.

The second to sell for the joint top price was Garrallan Bess VG86 sired by Alfrag Juror Kendall. She was third generation of Very Goods and was giving just over 30kgs. She was purchased by J & M Prentice, Blackwood Farm, New Cumnock, Ayrshire. The third to sell for 2,200gns was a Holstein cow Changuefarm Allen Lola VG87 sired by Canyon-Breeze Allen and was purchased by A & I Lamont, Sandieston Farm, Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. This powerful deep bodied cow was freshly calved in May her third dam was Changuefarm Blackstar Lola who was one of the top Holstein cows in Scotland in the late 90’s.

One of the best heifers in the sale was Changue Melanie 168 GP84, calved in April she was on her way to make a big first record. She went back to the famous Melanie family, her fifth dam was Melanie 3 EX who produced over 80tons lifetime. This fancy young heifer now joins the herd of J & A Struthers, Boylston Farm, Cumnock, Ayrshire for 2,100gns.
The world renowned Wren family originally from the Bankend herd was represented by Changue Wren 29, sired by Auchensale B L Jurist she was a potential 7th generation Excellent or Very Good dams. She was due to calve to Changue Melville and sold for 2,100gns to R.D Young, Waterside, Kinbuck, Dunblane, Stirling.
