Pedigree Dairy Day Show and Sale
Wednesday 24th February 2010

CHANGING TIMES!

Auctioneers reported an “interesting” trade at the monthly pedigree dairy club show and sale on Wednesday 24th February 2010. Expanding on this Glyn Lucas said “ We have seen definite pattern emerge recently, in both the commercial and pedigree sale ring. The better quality, fresh young cows and heifers are much the same price as they have been for a year or two between 2000 and 2500 but the frailer and of course animals with blemishes are a good deal cheaper than 6 months ago, under £1000. Buyers want trouble free, long lasting, slightly more robust cows with a strong hold of their udder and sound feet and legs, and understandably are prepared to pay a decent premium for them.

The February show was kindly sponsored by Cogent who now are giving a generous prize to the Champion and Reserve. The show was judged by Mr Andrew Wilson fron Northshield Holsteins in Fife. His Champion was also joint top price, selling for 2500gns from Harry, Margaret and David Hodgson of the noted “Wormanby” herd. Wormanby Final Cut Princess VG87 sports a very nice pedigree being off a VG87 14000kg Storm Atom cow, whose Dam (by Formation) was also 14000kgs and EX93-4E. She now joins Messrs Kennedy’s Stair Herd at West Carngillan, Ayrshire.

Also selling for 2500gns was a well bred Roxy second calf cow from David McCormick of Castle Douglas, homebred and sired by Wilcoxview Jasper out of a Jordan daughter of the EX92 Bricknell Progress Roxy she is closely related to the 4200gn heifer calf that the McCormick family sold for charity at the December B&W sale. The same buyer, Andrew Bargh of Woodclose, Penrith took this powerful young VG87 cow.
