Newcastleton Opening Sale of Store & Breeding Sheep

On Tuesday 24th August Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Newcastleton Auction Mart held their annual sale of 621 breeding sheep and store lambs.

Pen of Scottish Mule lambs from The Side which sold for £96 per head

All classes met a fantastic trade with prices far exceeding vendors expectations. Supporters to the event were out in full from far and near and achieving the top price of the day was £96 for the top draw of Scottish Mule ewe lambs shown by M/s Aitchison of The Side with their annual consignment to Newcastleton Mart. Also from the same home were shearling gimmers selling to £101.

Store lambs met one of the best trades ever to be seen at the Holm with lambs selling to a top of £70 from M/s Nixon of Blinkbonny for Texels.

Averages: Breeding Sheep: gimmers and ewes £98.82, ewe lambs £82.02. Store lambs £58.42.
