The demand for Bleu du Maines at Carlisle saw strong interest coming from the commercial breeder at the annual show and sale held at Borderway.
Prices for the sale were led by a millennium shearling ram shown from the Calla flock of William Baillie based at Lanarkshire. Selling for 1,050gns, this March born group one ram, a son of a home bred sire and bred from a Tighnahinch mother, he was knocked down to J Clarkson of Richmond, Yorkshire.

Also from the same Calla pen was the next leading price of the sale at 1,000gns. Another shearling son of the homebred ram Calla K607 and out of Calla Abbie, a Goldies Victory sired dam, he was sold to G Gibson of Bishop Auckland, Co.Durham.
The top three leading prices in the Bleu section were all consigned by William Baillie of the Calla flock. Firstly at 850gns was Calla Fergus, an April born shearling sired by Cysgod Daniel and out of a homebred ewe going back to Langley Cannon. Fergus now travels north to Ross-shire for James Scott & Ptrs of Fearn, Tain.

Following at 750gns was Calla Fred a full brother to Fergus. He was sold to Cannon Hall Farm Ltd of Barnsley, Yorkshire. Thirdly selling at 650gns was Calla Felix, another Cysgod Daniel son out of Calla Debbie also by Langley Cannon. He also goes with his pen mate to Cannon Hall Farm Ltd.
Reaching 600gns was a shearling ram from Percy Tait of the Perdi flock based in Broughton Hackett. This February born ram, a son of Astley Digger going back to Astley Argonaut on his mothers pedigree, was secured by H Huddleston of Hexham.

Topping the lamb ram section in the Bleus at 600gns was a February born lamb shown by JW & KM Davison of Langley on Tyne, Hexham. A son of the Irish bred sire, Randalstown Frenzy and bred from an Aintree sired mother, he was knocked down to fellow breeder Stuart Goldie to join the Maunby flock based at Thirsk.
Going back to the Millenium Bleu section, a sole entry from Gavin Shanks of Carluke, Lanarkshire sold his shearling ram for 850gns. Inveresk Fletcher, sired by a home bred ram and carries Astley breeding on his mother pedigree, he was knockded down to local enthusiast W & B Nichol of Lawston, Newcastleton.

The leading price in the millennium bleu lamb class also came from the Inveresk flock for Gavin Shanks. Selling for 800gns was Inveresk Garrion, a son of a homebred ram and out of a Tighnahinch bred mother. He was also sold to Messrs Nichol of Lawston.
Taking the top price in the female classes was the days female and supreme champion which came from the Calla flock of William Baillie. Calla Fay is a daughter of Cysgod Daniel and carries the Langley Cannon line on her mothers pedigree. This gimmer is no stranger to the show ring as she has already lifted the female championship and reserve overall championship at the 2009 Royal Highland Show. She was sold for 550gns to Laine Daff of Uplawmoor, Renfrewshire.
