26th ANNUAL MAY SHOW & SALE

Two bulls at 20,000gns topped the Limousin sale on Saturday 2nd May 2009 which produced an overall average of £5,502 for 175 bulls, with only 20 bulls returning home unsold.

First to reach 20,000gns was Tunnelby Cymbellene shown by Miss Ann Thompson of Crewe, Cheshire. Her September 2007 born son of Hafodlas Abel and bred from Tunnelby Otteline a Ronick Cosmos sired daughter, caught the eye of many breeders today, and was finally knocked down to a joint partnership of David Harker for his Overthwaite Herd and Doug Edgar for his Shire Herd.

Also fetching 20,000gns was the event Intermediate and Supreme bull Champion Ampertaine Commander shown by WJ & J McKay of Co. Derry, Northern Ireland. Sired by Glenrock Ventura and out of Ampertaine Annabella, one of the McKay’s noted show cows, Commander was sold to join the Barrons herd for Willie Barron at Burnhope, Co. Durham.

Top female of the show and sale was a 14 month old heifer shown by Millington Grange Estate. Millington Decision, a Marron daughter and half sister to the 10,000gn Millington Choice heifer had, earlier in the day, lifted the Ladies Day championship. She sold to society president Roger Hazard and his sons for their noted Mereside herd for 6,000gns.

Averages – 52 senior bulls £5391.00, 72 intermediate bulls £5,787.67, 48 junior bulls £5,210.63, overall £5,502.00.
