Weekly Commercial Dairy Sale Report

Pedigree Dairy Day - 16th December
The final sale of the year for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club took place at Borderway on Wednesday 16th December. The general quality of the milking animals were of a very high standard with top herds consigning in numbers. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 11th November
The monthly Pedigree Dairy Sale at Borderway on 11th November, was busy and varied. 200 head of Holsteins and Montbeliardes from as far afield as the Moray Firth, Somerset and Northern Ireland were catalogued. [report]

Barr Dispersal - 4th November
The Breed record average for milkers was smashed when one of the finest herds of dairy cattle ever to grace Borderway Mart was dispersed on Wednesday 4th November. [report]

Shirvindale Dispersal - 21st October
Following the Club Sale on 21st October was the total dispersal of Mike and Diane Shirvington’s superbly bred “Shirvindale” pedigree Holstein herd. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 21st October
There was a very good quality entry of fresh young cows and heifers at the October monthly pedigree dairy show and sale at Borderway Mart on Wednesday 21st October. [report]

Meikle Laught Dispersal - 16th October
The dispersal of the Meikle Laught herd owned by David Carson took place on Friday 16th October. In total just over four hundred animals were sold to buyers from all over the British Isles. [report]

Northern National Ayrshire Sale - 14th October
The first Northern National Ayrshire sale took place on Wednesday 14th October with a high quality entry and a packed ring saw prices top 2,400gns. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 9th September
A smaller consignment of females was forward for the September Border and Lakeland club show and sale. Restored, albeit controversially, to its “evening” status the Annual Autumn Dairy Bull Show and Sale at Borderway was a huge success. [report]

Dardenburn Dispersal - 4th September
One of the largest dairy herd sale of the year was held in Borderway on Friday 4th September when the entire “Dardenburn” Holstein herd and followers was dispersed. [report]

Hebrides Dispersal - 2nd September
The dispersal sale of the Hebrides herd of pedigree Holsteins for Kenny and Betty Robison’s from the island of Gigha took place at Borderway on Wednesday 2nd September. [report]

Oasisview Dispersal - 19th August
The Oasisview herd of pedigree Holstein cattle dispersed it’s milking portion on Wednesday 19th August 2009 at Borderway Mart Carlisle. In total there were sixty animals sold with the majority of the herd having calved in the spring. [report]

All Breeds Dairy - 19th August
A smaller number of Ayrshire cattle were forward for the August All breeds Dairy sale at Borderway on the 19th August. However what was lacking in quantity certainly was made up with quality. [report]

Branchal Centenary - 19th August
One of the greatest achievements in the dairy industry has to go to the Telfer family from the Branchal herd from High Branchal, Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire for being the only herd in the UK to have registered black and white cattle for over a century. [report]

Ashpetall Dispersal - 12th August
The Ashpetall herd of pedigree Holstein cattle was dispersed in Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 12th August. The herd was owned by J.P. Hall from East Heddon, Newcastle. [report]

Croftland Jersey Herd Dispersal - 4th August
On Tuesday 4th August Jersey breeders from all over the UK and Ireland attended the dispersal sale of the Croftlands herd at Seaville Farm, Silloth in Cumbria. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 22nd July
The monthly Border & Lakeland Club show and sale of Holstein heifers and fresh young cows comprised a typically variable collection, suitable for all tastes of pedigree and commercial buyers. [report]

Linstockcastle - 1st July
The reduction sale for the Linstockcastle herd for Messrs. G. Wannop & Son took place at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 1st July 2009. [more]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 17th June
The Border and Lakeland Holstein Club Show and sale took place on Wednesday 17th June at the Borderway Sale centre. There was a high quality consignment of fresh cows and heifers resulting in an overall average of £2,064.22. [report]

Acklington Park - 27th May
The Non-Pedigree dairy herd owned by J Howie & Sons, Acklington Park, Morpeth toped at 3000gns, with thirty cows and heifers making over 2000gns. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 20th May
The monthly Pedigree Dairy Sale at Borderway Mart once again saw a brisk trade for fresh young cows and heifers, averaging £2000 for a 100% sell out. [report]

Notwen Herd Dispersal - 22nd April
The Notwen herd of G F Macarthur & Co, Newton of Darnaway, Forres, Moray dispersed their herd on the 22nd April at Borderway Mart. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 15th April
The April Pedigree Dairy Sale included a great variety of good quality Holstein, Jersey and Ayrshire cows and heifers, as well as the first consignment to disperse the milking portion of the Wilson families much respected “Snow” Holstein Herd. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day & Spring Bull Sale - 18th March
A beautiful heifer from the renowned Petteril herd stood out from the rest in a quality display of heifers. A record entry of bulls were forward for the spring event, with a total of 32 bulls selling on the day to average £1916. [report]

Moonshine Shines Brightest at Knockenjig - 11th March
The majority of Ayrshire breeders in the UK and Ireland travelled to Borderway on the 11th March to see the famous Knockenjig herd dispersed. It had been a much anticipated event since it was first advertised and the enormous crowd witnessed one of the greatest sales in living memory. [report]

West Plenmeller Herd Dispersal - 4th March
This herd of Commercial Friesian bred cows and heifers attracted a big crowd of buyers keen for extra longevity and shape. The trade for all stages of lactation was very brisk. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 25th February
The second sale of the year for the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club held at Borderway Mart Carlisle once again proved a great success with an overall average for cows and heifers at £1927. [report]

Pedigree Dairy Day - 21st January
The first Border and Lakeland Club Sale of 2009 got off to a terrific start with a quality consignment of fresh cows and heifers. Most of the top pedigree herds were represented. Overall demand was still high, so it was no surprise that only a few animals were sold under the £2000 price tag, resulting in an overall average of almost £2,150. [report]
