Cracking Christmas Trade

The final sale of the year for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club took place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 16th December 2009. The general quality of the milking animals were of a very high standard with top herds consigning in numbers.

The show was judged by local breeder Andrew Carter from “Gerrard” Holsteins, Wigton. He purchased the Champion for 2600gns from Geoff Wilson, Low Field Farm, Appleby. She was Snow Lady 70, sired by Gerrard Spirte from a Very Good 87 dam. The Reserve Champion was Snow Car Margaret VG88 consigned by G&M Wilson. A youthful cow in her third lactation she sold for 2100gns to N&SJ Sanderson, Burtholme Farm, Lanercost.

The top price went to another Snow heifer from G&M Wilson, Low Field Farm, Snow Pat Nancy 16, a daughter of Gillette Final Cut and bred from two Excellent dams, she sold for 2650gns to N&SJ Sanderson, Burtholme Farm, Lanercost. Snow Flare 4 VG87 consigned by G&M Wilson, Lowfield Farm sold for 2400gns to JG Wilson & Son, Grange Farm, Egremont. She was a daughter of Ocean View Zenith, fresh in her second lactation.

E&AE Harrison, Lowhouse Farm, Armathwaite sold a daughter of Summershade Igniter for 2350gns. She was bred from a Very Good 87 Duregal Astre Starbuck and now joins the herd of IT&S Carlyle, Bleaberry Rigg, Longtown.

A consignment of 15 maiden heifers from Newheaton Holsteins, New Heaton, Cornhill-on-Tweed sold very well averaging £1023. Top price maiden sold for 1150gns to Greentower Farms, Lanark. This was for a Alfrag Juror Kendall daughter from an Excellent Bellwood with massive production figures.

Embryos sold to a top of 400gns for Regancrest Mac from the Blackstar Jean family and average £333 for 20 sold.
