cattle / Following the Club Sale was the total dispersal of Mike and Diane Shirvington’s superbly bred “Shirvindale” pedigree Holstein herd.
The herd comprised representatives of many highly regarded cow families and there were animals of all ages by a variety of top AI sires and impeccably bred stock bulls.

The was a large crows of pedigree and commercial buyers to pay due respect to the herd resulting, as is usual for an all year calving herd of varying types and ages, in an excellent albeit selective trade.
Top price of 3400gns, paid by RG&HE Thomson, Bennison House, Sneaton, Whitby was for a VG87 (2yr) heifer due again in early February. Bred off three successive Excellent cows (the dam being EX91, 11,000kgs Outside daughter) from the Magda family tracing back to “Meadow Bridge”.

An August calved, second lactation cow from the same Magda family, by Denmire Roosevelt (Morty x Rhapsody) made 2300gns and was one of a few select milkers to join Jimmy Hodge’s noted “Lemington” herd at Eyemouth.
There were numerous
other mature animals making over 2000gns, and as one would expect, their
heifer calves were in very keen demand. Selling to 1650gns for a Braedale
Bambam yearling from a homebred Comestar Outside Excellent Roxy.
