The enthusiasm shown by buyers matched the quality of cattle with excellent prices and respect for good breeding. The sale proved conclusively that, “no one should even be shy about sending well bred stylish milkers to these monthly events” said auctioneer Glyn Lucas of Harrison & Hetherington. The top price of 4000gns for the Champion was a very fair reward for the breeder consignors Messrs Steel of Kepculloch Farm, Balfron for their heifer “Kepculloch Duplex Roxie 2. This seven week calved two and a half year old was bred from nine successive generations of Excellent of VG89 cows tracing directly to the “Queen of the Breed” Glenridge Citation Roxy herself, via three homebred high yielding dams. She now joins Messrs Bargh’s herd at Woodclose, Skelton.

Also much admired was a white heifer by the ever popular sire Comestar Outside from the Miss America family, bred and sold by Messrs Hunter of West Tarbrax, Shotts. Letterkenny Outside Miss America sold a month fresh and was out of a homebred VG(2yr) COmestar Leader young cow. The successful buyer was up and coming breeders Messrs Horsely of Woodhouse Farm, Catterlen.

Also in very keen demand was a batch of young cows and heifers from the Snow herd of Messrs Wilson of Appleby, who are progressively selling the milking portion of their repected herd. The had several over 2000gns, three making £2500 or more to a top of 2700gns for a second calver by Ocean View Derry Zander from a VG86 Duncan Progress Nina cow.

The average of over £2000 for all heifers reflected the quality and current demand generally.
