Pedigree Dairy Day Show and Sale
Wednesday 22nd July 2009
The monthly Border & Lakeland Club show and sale of Holstein heifers and fresh young cows comprised a typically variable collection, suitable for all tastes of pedigree and commercial buyers.
The trade, although down overall on the last couple of sales, was such that buyers and sellers should have gone home content. There was a noticeable resistance from buyers to go “over the top” in their bidding and the vendors honourably revised their expectations.
However the very best animals made around or above the 2000gns mark to a top of 2500gns. This bid secured a well grown 2yr 2month fresh heifer for regular top quality buyer Mr Neil Sanderson from Butholme Farm, Lanercost. The heifer Hailstone Bambam Peggy by Braedale Bambam and from a VG86 Petteril Royce cow from a very sound Snow/Hailstone family that recently won 2nd prize in this years Great Yorkshire Show progeny class. She was bred and shown by Mark Wilson and family of Ormside Lodge, Appleby.
