Flying Trade at Borderway
The Border and Lakeland Holstein Club Show and sale took place on Wednesday 17th June at the Borderway Sale centre. There was a high quality consignment of fresh cows and heifers resulting in an overall average of £2,064.22. “Demand for these quality animals is at an all time high” said auctioneer Glyn Lucas.

The show was sponsored by leading genetic company Cogent and judged professionally by Martin Dixon from the Smallthwaite herd in Penrith. His champion was consigned by DI & FM Cannon, Espland Hill, Brampton Espland Talent Agatha was sired by Ladino Park Talent, she had calved at the end of April giving 36 kgs. This perfect uddered heifer sold for 2,500gns to A&B Bargh, Woodclose, Skelton, Penrith.

Reserve Champion went to Errolston Rolo Ruth consigned by B&V Davidson, Errolston, Gretna . She was sired by Errolston Rolo and was potentially the forth generation of Excellent or Very Good cows. She sold for 3,100gns to A&B Bargh, Woodclose, Skelton, Penrith.
Also selling for 2,500gns was Newheaton Bonanza Queen cosigned by New Heaton Holsteins, New Heaton, Cornhill-on-Tweed and now joins the herd of N&SJ Sanderson, Burtholme Farm, Lanercost. She was sired by Magor Bonanza Allen from a Very Good Lord Lily with over 5% butterfat and 4% protein. The Newheaton had another three classy heifers all selling over the £2,000 bracket.
J. Bryson & Son Dykehead Farm, Lesmahogow sold a tremendous heifer only one week calved. She was sired by Cotopierre J R Belero with the first five dams all classified Excellent. She sold for 2,300gns to Messrs Forrest, Hurkledale Farm, Cummertrees, Annan.
GF Macarthur & Co, Newtown of Darnaway, Forres consigned thirty seven in calf heifers from their much admired Notwen herd. They were in calf to Stardale Willliam due for this summer, top price in this super group of heifers was 2,100gns paid by Ordens Farms Ltd, Ordens Farm, Boyndie, Banff.
