Pedigree Dairy Day Show and Sale
Wednesday 20th May 2009

The monthly Pedigree Dairy Sale at Borderway Mart once again saw a brisk trade for fresh young cows and heifers, averaging £2000 for a 100% sell out.

A dozen or more made over 2000gns to a top of 2900gns for a well bred heifer from Mr Bellerby of Bridge House Farm, Weeton, Huby. This is a daughter of Regancrest-Mr Samuelo from the popular Kimo family, she now joins the well respected Ellengrove herd of the Pattinson’s at Walby, near Carlisle. The same “Weetondale” herd produced two other animals at 2400gns, one by Shottle from the homebred Iolanthe family.

Two heifers were joint second top price of 2600gns, one being from Messrs Fisher of Dolphenby Farm, Penrith, a 3 week calved Shottle daughter from a high butterfat and protein Jeannie family, the other being one of a milky consignment from the Bell family’s Holmland herd. The heifer was by Roseland-View Black Starboy off a Comestar Outside cow of the originally French bred Idylle family.

The show was expertly judged by John Harrison of “Crossrigg” who placed Messrs Fisher’s Shottle heifer champion above the top price Kimo heifer from Messrs Bellerby.
Amongst the embryos for sale the greatest enthusiasm was attracted for those out of Morsan Dundee Doris VG87(2yr) by Braedale Goldwyn, they sold for 610gns each.
Following the milking section was a dispersal batch of commercial heifers, mostly Norwegian Red sires off Black & White cows and in calf to an Aberdeen Angus. Trade was quality selective to average £1360 to a top of 1800gns.

Also forward were a dozen pure Friesian served and bulling heifers from the recently dispersed herd of Michael Henderson of Haltwhistle. These sold well with in calf heifers averaging nearly £1300 and maidens just over £900.
