Dispersal of the Notwen Pedigree Holstein Herd

The Notwen herd of G F Macarthur & Co, Newton of Darnaway, Forres, Moray dispersed their herd on the 22nd April 2009 at Borderway Mart Carlisle.

Having spent over sixty years in the dairy industry the Macarthur family reluctantly made the decision to cease milking and fully concentrate on their cash crop business.

Trade again was brisk for correct Holstein cattle with a top price paid for a beautiful uddered heifer. Notwen Pea Hen14 was sired by Weeton Orion and sold for 2,700gns to Greentower Farms Ltd, New Greentowers Farm, Cartland, Lanark.

Four animals sold for 2,200 the first was Notwen Chantal 49 also sired by Weton Orion she now joins the herd of WC&DJ Copland, Nether Collinhurst, Ecclefechan, Lockerbie. Second to sell for 2,200 was Notwen Pansy 132 this heifer was fresh in February and giving over 30kgs daily, she was purchased by Mark Farmers, Mark Farm, Dunragit, Stranraer. The last animal to sell for 2,200 was another fresh heifer this time by Stardale Saha from the Mairi family this great uddered heifer joins the top price animal also going to Greentower Farms Ltd, New Greentowers Farm, Cartland, Lanark.

The young stock where especially good being sired by some of the best breeding bulls form the Weeton and Stardale herds. Stardale Saha and Stardale William sired the majority of the yearlings and calves who where purchased mainly by pedigree breeders. The Macarthur family would like to wish all purchasers the very best in the future with the Notwen cattle.
