ANNIVERSARY STORE CATTLE SHOW & SALE

Wednesday 20th August 2008


On Wednesday 20th August 2008, Harrison & Hetherington Limited, Carlisle held their Anniversary show and sale when they presented a catalogue entry of 1,569 store cattle which was very kindly sponsored by Burnetts (Solicitors), Agri-Lloyd and Schering-Plough.

A packed ringside of prospective purchasers were in attendance and the atmosphere throughout the sale was electric as prices met a very strong demand with several vendors averaging over £800 for their consignments.

20 superb Belgian cattle from Mr Len Skelton of Low House averaged a staggering £909 whilst 41 outstanding Charolais cattle averaged £900 from Messrs Baty of Broomhill.

The sale as a whole averaged a magnificent £746 throughout.

SALE RING

The pre-sale judging was very ably carried out by Mr M Wilcox of Wigan. The championship rosette was awarded to a red Limousin cross heifer shown by Mr Tommy Pearson of The Faulds, Caldbeck, Wigton. His heifer was sired by a Limousin cross British Blue bull and bred from a British Blue cross cow and sold for the top price of the day at £1,250 and was purchased by Cannon Hall Farms Ltd of Canthorne, Nr. Barnsley.

The Reserve Champion ticket was presented to Mr Len Skelton of Low House Farm, Dearham, Maryport for his black Limousin cross heifer. She was later knocked down for £1,150 to local show enthusiasts Ruth, Pop and Edward Stevenson of Howgillfoot, Kirkby Stephen.
