Local breeders Robert and Michael Scott of the Thirlwall flock based at Greenhead, Carlisle set a new centre record of 5,500gns for females at the Bluefaced Leicester female show and sale at Borderway, on Monday 21st January 2008. The show and sale attracted a huge crowd of breeders and enthusiasts from all over the UK and Northern Ireland. Topping the sale at 5,500gns was a two shear home bred ewe who was mother of Thirlwall Z008 lamb ram which sold for £3,600 in 2007. This daughter of R008 Hewgill ram and in lamb to X010 Thirlwall, she attracted strong interest and was finally sold to join the Cowden flock for A & KM Barnes, Great Howden, Lancs. The second leading price of the sale also joins the Cowden flock for Messrs Barnes at 3,200gns. Another ewe consigned from the Virtual Flock Sale of the Thirlwall consignment. A daughter of the N007 Raysonhall sire and in lamb to the homebred sire W026, she is a great producer of tremendous crossing rams.
Following at 2,600gns were three entries, one being the overall reserve champion which was awarded by judge of the day North East breeder Mr Nicholas Robinson of the Cocklaw flock based at Hexham and presenting the rosette to regular consignors Messrs Lord of the Hewgill flock at Kirkby Stephen for their home bred ewe lamb, a daughter of V45 Hewgill. Successful purchaser was GE Carter & Son of Parcelstown, Longtown. The second 2,600gn bid was for a three shear ewe from the Thirlwall flock sale. This geno group one ewe, a daughter of S014 Todhills and selling in lamb to X001 Snabgreen was bought by A Lodge of West Side House, Settle. The final 2,600gn entry came from the Midlock flock of John Wight & Sons based at Crawford, Biggar.
