Spring Show and Sale of
Pedigree Simmental Bulls & Females
Friday 25th April 2008

Although a small entry of cattle were forward for the annual Simmental spring show and sale due to the on going BT restrictions, trade throughout was very positive with only two animals going home unsold and four bulls selling over the 3,000gns mark.

Leading price of the day was 3,600gns attained twice, one of which was the Supreme Champion, Chestermann Titan, shown by Messrs N & N Gwynne of Crymych, Pembrokeshire. Titan, a son of the renowned Gretnahouse Supersonic and out of a Craigshield Kipling bred mother, caught the eye of welsh breeder Mr DJA Davies for his Gilweis herd based at Trelech, Carmarthen.

Also selling for 3,600gns was a senior bull shown by north east breeders Messrs N & A Hunter of Woodlands Hall Farm, Consett, Co.Durham. Derwentwood Tornado, an April 2006 born son of Drumsleed Kelso and bred from a Balmanno Beefeater sired mother. Successful purchasers were noted suckler producers Messrs G & L White of Howden, Selkirk.

Being sold for 3,200gns was Hockenhull Vienna consigned by Cheshire breeder Mr Hugo Arnold of Hockenhull Farms Ltd. Vienna is a son of the 15,000gn Omorga Prince and out of Hockenhull Megan one of the top cows at Hockenhull. He joins the Hartley herd of Messrs JW Davison & Sons of Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear.

Reaching the 3,000gn mark was borders breeder Mr Charles Bruce of Bemersyde Farm, Melrose. Bemersyde Thistle, a May 2006 born son of Bemersyde Potheridge and bred from a Bemersyde Stuart sired mother, he sold to Messrs G & B Dobson Ltd of South Elkington, Louth, Lincs.

The days Reserve Supreme Champion followed next with a price tag of 2,700gns. Swingletree Terminator was shown by local breeder Mr JA Tallentire of Great Asby, Appleby. His pedigree carries the noted Salisbury Challenger as his sire and a Balmanno Hitman sired daughter as his mother. Terminator was knocked down to Dumfriesshire enthusiasts Messrs D & G McClanachan of Oxgang Farm, Dumfries.

Averages – 13 bulls £2,180.77, 1 female £1,155.00.
