Local pedigree Longhorn breeder Nicky Luckett of Wellhead, Wigton held a major reduction sale from her noted Wellhead herd at Borderway on Saturday. Also selling this day were guest consignments from the north of Scotland based Aberdeen herd for Aberdeen City Council, from borders breeders John Close & Son Ltd of the Fishwick herd and M Pumphrey of the Clonyard herd, Dumfriesshire and Simon Dalton of the Greenside herd, Cumbria.

Aberdeen Granite - 3,600gns

Topping the sale at 3,600gns was the homebred 2 year old bull Aberdeen Granite from the Aberdeen Herd consignment. Granite is a son of Fishwick Chauvinist and bred from the homebred cow Aberdeen Ashley who goes back to Mendip and Parc Grace in her bloodlines. He now travels south to Cornwall for Peters Finger Farm based in Launceston.

Aberdeen Dora - 3,200gns

Selling for 3,200gns from the Aberdeen Herd was Aberdeen Dora with her twin February born calves. Dora, a third calved cow, is a daughter of Fishwick Rembrandt and out of Linton Primula a daughter to Llantrothy Kestrel. This outfit was successfully bought by BM & MPD Llewellyn of Llandeilo, Carmarthen.

Aberdeen Grace - 2,300gns

Another Aberdeen bred female took the next leading price tag of 2,300gns. A served heifer, Aberdeen Grace a very stylish daughter of Fishwick Chauvinist and in calf to Gorse Maharajah, was knocked down to C Morgan of Henllys, Cwmbran.

Wellhead Dill - 1,700gns

Topping the consignment from the Wellhead herd for Nicky Luckett was a past show champion Wellhead Dill who sold with her heifer calf at foot. Dill, a daughter of Wellhead Peregrine, she has noted show successes to her credit, including Breed Champion Royal Highland Show 2005. She was successfully purchased by Belvior Ridge Holdings of Pierrepont, Nottingham.

Leading the Fishwick herd for Peter Close was Fishwick Gelignite, a January 2006 born daughter of Carreg Cennen. She sells in calf to Blackbrook Pilot and goes to local breeder Simon Dalton of the Greenside herd based at Hallbankgate, Carlisle.
