The day’s top price of 5,500gns went to a January 2006 born heifer, Lowerffrydd Berti, consigned by the Janos Herd on behalf of Messrs BC & JW Evans, Penrhos, Trefeglwys, Powys. By the AI sire Nenuphar and out of the Talent granddaughter, Lowerffrydd Pisano, Berti was sold AI’d to Fieldson Alfy, the 37,000gns Supreme Champion from the October 2006 Carlisle Bull Sale. Purchaser was Paul Cairns, Hall Farm, Tollerton, Notts for his recently established Plumtree Herd. Mr Cairns later bought the Rocky daughter, Aldan Bella, brought out by GW Jones, Graig Fach, Llanfair, Welshpool for 3,500gns.

The third annual sale from the Mynach Herd of ED Griffiths & Co, Cilgryman Fawr, Cwmfelin-Mynach, Carmarthenshire saw 18 maiden heifers go under the hammer to average a cracking £2823. Predominantly by the sires Sable and Mynach Utah - who goes back to Ocean - best of these was the 4,000gns Mynach Brina, June 2006 born and a daughter of Mynach Utah and out of the Oedipe daughter Mynach Sabrina. She heads to AC Fotheringham, Ballinloan, Dunkeld, Perth, Perthshire.

Three further heifers made 3,800gns, two of which - Mynach Beaonce and Mynach Bamsara - sired by Sable and Mynach Utah respectively - were purchased by TW Roberts & Son, Malt House Farm, St Mellons Road, Lisvane, Cardiff. TW Roberts & Son also bought Mynach Bessa sporting a Beef Value of LM+32, by Mynach Utah and out of Mynach Tessa at the 3,200gns mark. The other heifer at 3,800gns, Mynach Berni, by Mynach Utah and out of the Oedipe daughter, Mynach Tan, was bought by G Rodgers, 48 Hillhead Road, Dromora, Dromore, Co Down, N Ireland.

The strength in depth of the Mynach offering was in evidence as three further heifers made over 3,000gns. The Sable daughter Mynach Bling Bling is out of Mynach Opal, a Tarvis granddaughter, and this April 2006 born heifer sold to an undisclosed buyer for 3,500gns. Two heifers sold to 3,000gns: first of these was Mynach Bren, sired by Sable and out of Mynach Menna when catching the eye of C Lewis, Garthvaughan, Cyfronydd, Welshpool. Again at 3,000gns was another Sable daughter, Mynach Bermuda, this time out of the Oedipe daughter Mynach Sumatra, sporting a Beef Value of LM+31 and with TB &CD Griffiths, Brynderi, Llangain, Carmarthen making the final successful bid. In all, 18 Mynach heifers averaged an excellent £2823

Leading the Lowbarn Herd contingent for RFS Newall, Low Barns, Wall, Hexham, Northumberland was the nine month old heifer, Lowbarn Contaria, sired by Cloughhead Organic and out of Mereside Ontario when knocked down to J & CM & CS Chappelhow, High Grounds Farm, Clifton Dykes, Penrith, Cumbria for 2,500gns.

A major reduction sale from the Redpaths Herd on behalf of Redpath Farms, Spylaw, Kelso, Roxburghshire saw 56 lots change hands overall. Topping the trade was the 2,200gns Rachels Toya, a 2002 born second calver sired by Ionesco and out of Rachels Nocturne carrying a Beef Value of LM+38. New owner is AJ Ewing, Dumbretton Farms, Annan, Dumfriesshire.
