A new official society sale of Hereford bulls and females attracted strong interest at Borderway on Friday 29th February 2008.

Topping the sale at 3,000gns was the youngest bull of the sale, Romany 1 Diamond, shown by border breeders Robert and Ron Wilson of Cowbog Farm, Kelso. This eyecatching November 2006 born bull, carries a wealth of breeding in his pedigree. A son of the Hereford Sire of the Year 2007 Crickley 1 Figurehead and bred out of Romany 1 Lily 4th a daughter of the noted Glenlees Storm sire. Successful buyer was J Brown of Woodleigh, St. Momans, by Anstruthers.

Champion Bull - Romany 1 Dan

Following closely at 2,900gns was the first of two entries shown by Tom Rennie of Mosston Muir Farm, Forfar. This 100% Argentine bred bull, Mosston Muir 1 Crawford, a son of the successful show winning bull Barwise 1 Wellington, and out of Mosston Muir 1 Brenda a daughter of WTK 38D Noble 5F. He was knocked down to PJ & AC Allman of Amberley Court, Hereford.

Selling for 2,600gns was Panmure 1 Champagne Charlie consigned by Scottish breeders JM Cant & Ptrs of Easter Knox Farm, Arbroath. Charlie, a May 2006 born son of FS 1 Versache and out of the home bred dam Panmure 1 Plum T6 sired by Rloa R271 Dynasty. He sold to H & J & L Parkin-Coates of Elmstone Farm, Doncaster.

Champion Fenmale - Barwise 1 Calendula

In the female section the reserve female champion jointly scooped the leading price tag at 2,300gns. Mosston Muir 1 Crystal, the second entry of the sale shown by Tom Rennie, is also 100% Argentine breeding. A daughter of the noted Barwise 1 Wellington sire and out of Mosston Muir 1 Joyce whose pedigree goes back to WTK 38 D Noble. Crystal sold in calf to FS1 Calypso King, a Blueprint son, going to NJ Holmes of Brookside Barn, Wolverhampton.

Also selling for 2,300gns was the only female entry shown by Robert and Ron Wilson of Cowbog, Kelso. Their sweet young heifer, Romany 1 Mink R22, is a daughter of the noted Crickley 1 Figurehead bull and bred from a Glenlees Storm sired mother. A number of females from this noted breeding line are prominent in the Romany herd and is an attractive pedigree to join any herd. She was successfully sold to J Torrance & Son of Knowetop, Lanarkshire.

Averages – 9 bulls £2,175.83, 8 females £1,575.00
