A nice selling trade prevailed at the early spring Charolais cattle sale held at Borderway on Friday 7th March 2008, with bulls averaging over £2,000. Leading the days trading was Lowerffrydd Bouncer a September 2006 born bull shown by Welsh breeder John Evans of Lower Ffrydd, Caersws, Powys. Bouncer, a son of Doonally New and going back to Moyness blood in his mothers pedigree, he sold for 4,000gns to local enthusiasts ME & J Fell of Stanger Hill, Mealsgate, Carlisle. Following at 2,800gns was the sole entry from Yorkshire breeder David Fattorini of Skewkirk Hall Farm, Tockwith. Fairway Bandtogether is sired by the homebred bull Fairway Trumpeter and carries homebred breeding on his mothers side a daughter of Fairway Soprano. He sold to local breeder Jim Wrigley of High House Farm, St.Bees. Selling for 1,800gns was two bulls. The first coming from Northumberland breeders JR & A Mews of Huntershield, Hexham with Huntershield Batman, an April born son of Derryharney Outstanding and carrying a noted breeding line of Coat Lezard on his mothers pedigree. He was knocked down to T & T Hamilton of High Cairn Farm, Sanquhar. The second 1,800gn entry was shown by Dumfrriesshire breeders Swalesmoor Charolais based at Eaglesfield, Lockerbie. Swalesmoor Bullet, the last bull to go through the sale ring, sired by Balthayock Universe was selected for purchase by J Laurie & Co, of Carterton, Lockerbie. Averages – 9 bulls £2,028.33, 5 females £834.90. |
